Instructional Services

The English Language Proficiency standards should be given to all teachers who have English learners in their classroom. The No Child Left Behind act requires that the standards address the following:

• the development and attainment of English language proficiency by language minority students;
• each grade level K-12;
• the domains of listening, speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension; and
• are linked to the academic content achievement standards in English/LA and Mathematics.

Several laws guide our practices for identifying and instructing English Language Learners:

·         Title III:  Language Instruction for Limited English Proficient and Immigrant Students

·         Title I, Part C:  Education of Migratory Children

·         Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964

·         Title IX, Part E:  Equitable Services for Non-Public School Student, Teachers, and Other Educational Personnel
