Whitley County Consolidated Schools welcomed staff back and officially kicked off the 2024-2025 with a renewed focus on building relationships and a motivational message from keynote speaker Sean Buchanan.
The morning started with networking opportunities and breakfast served by the WCCS Food Service. The day celebrated the district's commitment to fostering a positive school climate and supporting the well-being of all students. Superintendent, Dr. Laura McDermott, emphasized the importance of teachers, staff, and administrators connecting with each child to help them feel welcomed, valued, and prepared for success.
“When students feel cared for and supported, they are more engaged in their learning and better equipped to reach their full potential,” Dr. McDermott said.
WCCS also celebrated the recognition of the district's Teacher of the Year, Erin Fudge, Little Teacher Elementary teacher, and Exemplary Staff Member of the Year, Steve Corbin, WCCS Transportation Department. A public announcement will be celebrated during the August 23 home football game against Churubusco. City AutoMall and Kasey Shirey presented the awards to the nominees and finalists. City AutoMall gifted Corbin with $1,000 and Fudge will receive a new car at the game.
Teachers and staff nominated were: Alissa Roberts, High School Teacher of the Year; Amy Shearer, Middle School Teacher of the Year; Jill Lickey, ISMS seventh grade office, and Tanya Yager, WCCS paraprofessional.
Nationally renowned motivational speaker Sean Buchanan delivered a dynamic presentation to all district staff, sharing strategies to foster a sense of belonging and build authentic connections with students and colleagues.
By prioritizing relationship-building, Whitley County Consolidated Schools is setting the stage for transformative learning experiences and well-rounded student success. Through intentional learning, individualized support, and a culture of care, Whitley County Consolidated Schools aims to empower students to reach new heights in the 2024-2025 school year and beyond.
