At Whitley County Consolidated Schools, we know that our students' safety and the smooth operation of our district depend on the tireless efforts of our incredible support staff. While our teachers and administrators often take center stage, we have a dedicated staff working diligently behind the scenes to keep everything running like a well-oiled machine.
Meet Glenn Shaffer, WCCS's Lead Mechanic for the past six years. Before joining our district, Glenn honed his skills as a heavy truck mechanic in Fort Wayne. Now, he's putting that expertise to work keeping our fleet of 52 buses, 7 school vehicles, and an array of other equipment in top-notch condition.
"My job is all about keeping the buses running to keep our kids safe," said Glenn. "My own son rides the bus, so it's something I take very seriously. We help maintain everything from the mowers to the snow removal equipment - all to support the overall success of our district.
Glenn's dedication to his work and the WCCS community is evident in his words. But he's not the only transportation superstar on our team. We also have Zach Burgess, an ASE Certified Master School Bus Technician who joined our district six years ago.
"Ever since I was a kid, I've always wanted to work on the buses," Zach said. "My favorite part of the job is being able to provide and maintain a safe, reliable fleet for our students. I also enjoy mingling with the drivers."
The work of our transportation crew certainly doesn't go unnoticed. Without their tireless efforts, our district simply couldn't function. From ensuring our buses are road-ready to keeping our other vital equipment in peak condition, these Everyday Eagles play a crucial role in empowering student success.
So the next time you see one of our WCCS buses cruising down the road, remember the dedicated mechanics who spend their days inspecting, repairing, and fine-tuning those vehicles. And the next time you step foot on our campuses, take a moment to appreciate the administrative wizards, culinary masters, and countless other support staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes.
At WCCS, we're proud to have a staff of Everyday Eagles!
