Whitley County Consolidated Schools (WCCS) has demonstrated exceptional commitment to food service safety by successfully completing the ServSafe Managers Certification program, hosted by the City of Columbia City and Whitley County Chamber of Commerce.
While only one staff member was required to obtain the certification, multiple WCCS food service leaders voluntarily participated in the training, showcasing their dedication to student health and safety. The program, held on December 3, resulted in an impressive 90% pass rate, with participants averaging nearly 84% on the nationally recognized exam.
The ServSafe Managers Certification requires a minimum 70% passing score, making the WCCS team's achievement particularly noteworthy. Participants studied during their personal time, highlighting their commitment to providing the safest possible food service environment for hundreds of local students.
"We are incredibly proud of our staff's proactive approach to food safety. This certification ensures we're providing the highest standard of care for our students,” said Lisa Schnorr, WCCS Food Service Director.
The City of Columbia City and Whitley County Chamber fully support this initiative, recognizing the importance of food safety in school nutrition programs. The couse was hosted in the newly designed Beyond the Kitchen space.
“The WCCS staff has set the bar high for our new ServSafe classes being offered. Their high scores and pass rates indicate their exceptional dedication to our children and this community,” said Bill Dittlinger, City of Columbia City Community Engagement Specialist.
Beyond the Kitchen is created by the City of Columbia City and offers commercial kitchen space for rent and business education classes. You can learn more at beyondthekitchen.food.
