Collin Myers, a student at Columbia City High School's Eagle Tech Academy, has been selected as a 2025 American Voices Nominee for his compelling short story "Memory" in the prestigious Scholastic Art and Writing Competition.

“At the beginning of the year, we had to analyze writing pieces in Mr. Urschel’s class and then had to write a paper to make an insiding incident,” said Meyers. “Mr. Strass and Mr. Urshel liked the piece and encouraged me to write a short story to fit the submission requirements.”

The Scholastic Art and Writing Competition requires regional competitors to earn a Gold Key to be considered for National Awards. Myers successfully navigated this competitive process, demonstrating exceptional writing skills.

“It’s a short story about a perceived utopia where dementia and memory loss are reversed. I actually had to cut about 500 words to fit the criteria. My short story is 9 pages in length,” Myers said.

Myers recorded his short story at WBOI, Fort Wayne’s local NPR, station in his own voice to be considered for the final award in New York! Myers’ story plays at Fort Wayne Musuem of Art on February 8 through April 6.

CCHS Eagle Tech Academy student, Allison Mullett, received an Honorable Mention for her Science Fiction & Fantasy piece titled “On a Thursday.”

Whitley County Consolidated Schools celebrates these student achievements in literary excellence.
