Columbia City High School hosted the first of its kind for the high school with the Indiana National Guard Career Day, providing students with an opportunity to explore military career pathways and service opportunities.
The innovative event featured five interactive stations hosted by Indiana Army and Air National Guard representatives, allowing students to gain comprehensive insights into military careers, educational benefits, financial support, and service opportunities. A UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter on-site provided students with a tangible connection to military technology and operations.
“This was a fun experience. I’ve never had something like this before. I hopefully want to go into the military to become a nurse and have tuition assistance. I want to become an OBGYN. I’ve always considered military and today helped,” said Jozelyn Alman, Columbia City High School Service Academy Junior.

Criminal Justice CTE students practiced CSI!
The students have been going through the CSI unit, studying fingerprints, shoe and tire impressions, crime scene drawings, DNA, and trace evidence.
This practical combines it all into a mock crime scene. Our "victim" was murdered. The students have to observe the scene, take pictures, draw the scene, look for evidence, and document the evidence in a report.
Way to go, Criminal Justice students and Mr. Sexton!

CCHS and the CTE Construction Trades program appreciate the recently donated material from Big C Lumber-Fort Wayne and Michael Kinder and Sons.
The two companies each donated hundreds of dollars worth of material to the Construction Trade program to help offset material costs.
Thank you, Big C Lumber and manager John Roy, CCHS Alum, for your donation of siding, soffit materials and hardy board.
Cecil Scott from Michael Kinder and Sons dropped off 2x4 and 2x6 that are left over from projects that are too short or no longer useful for construction. In the past, the lumber was scraped and is now donated through the partnership with WCCS CTE programs.
A shoutout to Mr. Krill, CCHS Construction Trades Instructor, and Todd Keller and Kyle Mettert, Michael Kinder and Sons, for setting the donation in motion!
Thank you, community partners for supporting our students!

Columbia City High School CTE students have a new opportunity with the Central Midwest Regional Council of Carpenters (CMRCC)!
Officials met and signed documents agreeing to offer our Construction Trades pathway students a shortened apprenticeship program. Students who complete the full CTE pathway will be eligible for up to one year of credit in the apprenticeship, which allows them to start at a higher pay rate as well.
After completing the CTE pathway, students will have earned enough time in the classroom and through hands-on learning to finish their carpentry apprenticeship in only three years.
Thank you, Justin Carpenter and Gavin Gottfried, both CCHS Alumni and CMRCC Representatives for your partnership with CTE!

CCHS Inducts First National Technical Honor Society. Congratulations, students!
Columbia City High School celebrated its inaugural induction of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS), recognizing outstanding students in Career and Technical Education programs.
The ceremony, held on March 27, 2025, honored students who demonstrated excellence in technical education, leadership, and professional skills. According to Matt Bock, NTHS Advisor, the new chapter joins a national organization that has recognized more than 1 million members since 1984.
"This is a testament to our CTE programs and the caliber of kids we celebrate. They've shown exceptional dedication to their chosen technical fields and embody the core values of knowledge, skill, honesty, service, responsibility, scholarship, citizenship, and leadership,” said Jennifer Reiff, Director of Innovation and Career Technical Education.
