The final check presentations were today for Charitable Champions. As part of the Charitable Champions program, 8th-grade students learn about local nonprofit organizations and the role of philanthropy. Students then write a grant on behalf of one local organization and then the winning applications received a check.

Whitley County Consolidated Schools Board of School Trustees approved an updated school calendar for the 2024-2025 year to reflect five additional professional development (or teacher only) days for our staff.
The additional staff-only days were added through a 1003 waiver approved by the State. Students attend 5 fewer days during the school year but still exceed state guidelines for the number of required instructional minutes for the school year.
The change in calendar provides WCCS staff professional development opportunities to advance district strategic plan pillars of Comprehensive Student Experience, Employee Experience and Organizational Excellence.
Find the calendar on the WCCS App or online at wccsonline.com.

During tonight's board meeting retiring staff were recognized for their numerous years of service and dedication to WCCS.
Thank you!

Our staff at the CCHS Cafeteria recently received this note from a student : "Me and my friend were late to lunch and even though they already put everything up they still had smiles on their faces and were more than happy to give us lunch. They were so sweet and asked us what we wanted and she asked us if we wanted a brownie and we said yes, she took the biggest ones out of the bottom.. .and gave them to us. It was so sweet she took the time to do that and that they weren't rude or upset or anything. I think about their kindness every day." Way to serve and care for our students ladies!

With a heartfelt thank you, WCCS extends appreciation to our teachers for National Teacher Appreciation Week.
For everything seen and unseen, we appreciate the works of our teachers and know they are help drive world-class results.
Our own staff, community, board members and students have shared so many kind words of encouragement and a few snacks, too! Thank you!

As a reminder, WCCS has an e-learning day today, April 8.

Happy Spring Break, Eagles!
Share a photo of your favorite memory so far to brighten our feeds.
It's been a rainy break in Whitley County but we are thankful for pockets of sunshine and look forward to seeing you in class on Tuesday, April 9.

Dear WCCS Families,
Whitley County Consolidated Schools has made the decision to implement an eLearning day on Monday, April 8, 2024, in light of the upcoming Solar Eclipse. The decision was made with the safety and well-being of our students as our top priority.
There are several reasons that led us to this decision. Firstly, Whitley County Emergency Management, Columbia City Police Department, and Whitley County Sheriff’s Department have all expressed their concerns about the potential for traffic issues during our dismissal time. Secondly, we want to ensure that all students have the opportunity to witness this rare celestial event safely. By holding an eLearning day, students will have the flexibility to view the Solar Eclipse from the comfort and safety of their homes, under the supervision of their parents or guardians.
In addition, we are aware that there are many planned absences on this day. Implementing an eLearning day ensures that all students can continue their learning in a structured and supervised manner, even in the absence of regular in-person classes.
As part of this eLearning day, elementary students will be bringing home their devices over spring break so that they can participate in the planned activities on Monday, April 8th. We believe that providing access to these devices at home will facilitate a smooth transition to the eLearning day and enable students to engage effectively with the educational resources and assignments related to the Solar Eclipse.
We understand that some parents may have reservations about their children having devices over the break. If you prefer your child not to have the device during this time, you can simply put it away in a secure place and retrieve it for the eLearning day on April 8th. Rest assured that teachers will provide guidance and support to ensure that all students are prepared for the eLearning activities.
Teachers will be sending home additional information about the Solar Eclipse and eLearning expectations for April 8th. This will include detailed instructions for accessing online resources, completing assignments, and making the most of this unique educational opportunity.
If your child participates in athletics, his/her coach will provide updated information regarding practices, and/ or games for the 8th. Please watch the normal communication channels for this information.
Thank you for your cooperation and support as we strive to provide engaging and meaningful learning experiences for our students. Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact your child’s school.
Sincerely,
Dr. Laura McDermott
