Welcome back, Eagles!
As a reminder, there are no students tomorrow, December 3.
This is a scheduled professional development day for all of our staff.

The Columbia City High School Welding II students passed their welding certifications with 100 percent passing rate!
Observed by Chris Morr of Morr Welding Instruction and Certification, the second year welding students tested in 1G, 2G, 3G and 4G skills proving their proficiency.
"The welding program and Mr. Rusher helped me a lot. I'd say the test makes it nice to join the workforce and earn more money right away," says Iziah Rinehold, CCHS senior. He plans to continue welding for a career.
The certifications are earned through the American Welding Society and the students are tested at school in their normal environment.
"Testing on their machines, in their space is helpful. They're used to the work and dial their welders in for their own tests. They test on MIG welders with steel. Thank you, SDI for all the material to support our success," said Matt Rusher, CCHS CTE Welding Instructor.
Steel Dynamics has donated all of the steel, wire and rods to support all of the welding program! THANK YOU!

CCHS Construction Trades Students Get Hands-On with Walls and Wiring!
The Career and Technical Education (CTE) Construction Trades class at Columbia City High School has been hard at work over the past few weeks, honing their skills in wall construction and electrical work.
Under the guidance of Mr. Krill, these dedicated students have been building structures of various dimensions, then tearing them apart to begin prepping and drywalling. As Instructor Krill likes to say, "you gotta learn it to earn it" - and these students are certainly proving their commitment to mastering the trade.
Beyond developing technical skills, the CTE Construction Trades class had the opportunity to put their skills to the test in real-world applications. The students have recently assisted the City of Columbia City and the Whitley County Chamber with the Beyond the Kitchen project, putting their construction know-how to good use in service of the community.
The CTE pathways at CCHS are equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to excel in the construction industry.

The Criminal Justice classes had the opportunity to tour the new Whitley County Jail!
While on their tour, students learned about administrative careers, learned how evidence is taken, saw the state-of-the-art dispatch center, and walked through the jail side from the booking counter to the cafeteria.
While the students were there, the Sherrif's department answered all of the questions and introduced carers they can start as soon as they are 18 before they can go to the Police Academy at 21.
We are grateful for our Criminal Justice Instructor, Mr. Stacey Sexton who retired from law enforcement before he joined our CCHS team.
Criminal Justice is in its third year of our CTE pathways and sees continual growth each year. Students can earn their Emergency Telecommunicator Certification while at CCHS and dual credits for their time spent in the pathway.
Thank you, Sheriff Spencer, Sean Martin and Todd Cook for your time and expertise!

CTE Program | Hearts, kidneys, livers, too! It's nearly fall break but a normal day for our EMT students. Instructor Paige Phelps took her students to the cadaver lab to apply classroom principles.
"The chance to bag a patient with difficult anatomy was invaluable compared to bagging a manikin," Phelps said.
Every student held a human heart, kidney, and liver!

The junior class at Columbia City High School was formally introduced to the array of Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways available to them for their senior year!
With more than 24 different CTE programs to offer, CCHS students have the opportunity to dive deep into their own interests and passions, gaining valuable hands-on experience and industry-relevant skills that will set them up for success beyond high school.
From agriculture, fire and EMT, engineering and computer science to culinary arts and advanced manufacturing, the CTE options at CCHS provide students with a glimpse into potential future careers, empowering them to make informed decisions about their post-graduation plans.
During a class meeting introducing the CTE programs, juniors had the chance to learn about the various pathways from Jennifer Reiff, WCCS CTE Director, and Lori Heuer, WCCS Talent Development Director.
Applications for the CTE programs will be available soon, and CCHS school counselors will guide students through their applications during their junior class meetings. Whether a student is interested in pursuing a four-year degree, a skilled trade, or immediate employment, the CTE offerings at CCHS open the door to a world of opportunity.
We can't wait to see the CCHS Class of 2024 embark on their CTE journeys and unlock their full potential. The future is bright for these talented eagles!
