Next week ISMS will be celebrating FFA Week! FFA provides the next generation of leaders who will change the world. FFA helps young people meet new agricultural challenges by encouraging members to develop their unique talents and explore their interests in a broad range of career pathways. As National School Counselor Week is winding down, the ISMS counselors want to give you a little history of their “School Counselor” title. Often, school counselors are referred to as guidance counselors. Historically, the term “guidance counselor” was used to refer to counselors working in schools. This term has evolved to “school counselor” as the scope of duties has changed and evolved. Although some schools still use the outdated “guidance counselor” term, the American School Counselor Association encourages the use of “school counselor” to more accurately reflect the role. GUIDANCE COUNSELOR was a reactive approach to counseling and much of the work was with class scheduling and college preparation. They mostly worked in isolation and there was not much communication with other staff. Today’s SCHOOL COUNSELORS work more proactively and use data to measure the needs of students via achievement, attendance, and behavior. School counselors work collaboratively with teachers, administration, students, parents, and community partners to provide the most support possible for students through their academic, social/emotional, and career development journeys. Counselors today prefer the term "School Counselor," which is the title recognized by ASCA.

ISMS Food Service will be having its annual Super Bowl Party on Friday, February 9, 2024. The main line will be serving BBQ chicken pizza while the salad bar will be serving meatballs with beef dip and chips. All lunches will come with free popcorn and cookies.

Today is the first day of National School Counselor Week. School counselors provide support throughout a student's academic career. Your counselors help students when they face adversity such as bullying, trouble at home, academic performance, and relationship issues. Counselors also listen to students' interests and assess their skills and personality to help them decide their future academic and career goals. Remember, your school counselors are here to help and support you!
Just a quick reminder that tomorrow night from 6-8 p.m. is the next ISMS Family Skate Night at Happy Valley Skate Center.
Yesterday, the ISMS Science Olympiad team competed in the Goshen College Regional invitational placing 1st and qualifying for the State Tournament. Great job to all of these amazing students for making it to state in their 1st year ever competing!
