The Criminal Justice classes had the opportunity to tour the new Whitley County Jail! While on their tour, students learned about administrative careers, learned how evidence is taken, saw the state-of-the-art dispatch center, and walked through the jail side from the booking counter to the cafeteria. While the students were there, the Sherrif's department answered all of the questions and introduced carers they can start as soon as they are 18 before they can go to the Police Academy at 21. We are grateful for our Criminal Justice Instructor, Mr. Stacey Sexton who retired from law enforcement before he joined our CCHS team. Criminal Justice is in its third year of our CTE pathways and sees continual growth each year. Students can earn their Emergency Telecommunicator Certification while at CCHS and dual credits for their time spent in the pathway. Thank you, Sheriff Spencer, Sean Martin and Todd Cook for your time and expertise! #CTE #ExperienceWCCS #WCCSRelationshipBuilders

CTE Program | Hearts, kidneys, livers, too! It's nearly fall break but a normal day for our EMT students. Instructor Paige Phelps took her students to the cadaver lab to apply classroom principles. "The chance to bag a patient with difficult anatomy was invaluable compared to bagging a manikin," Phelps said. Every student held a human heart, kidney, and liver! #CTE #ExperienceWCCS

The junior class at Columbia City High School was formally introduced to the array of Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways available to them for their senior year! With more than 24 different CTE programs to offer, CCHS students have the opportunity to dive deep into their own interests and passions, gaining valuable hands-on experience and industry-relevant skills that will set them up for success beyond high school. From agriculture, fire and EMT, engineering and computer science to culinary arts and advanced manufacturing, the CTE options at CCHS provide students with a glimpse into potential future careers, empowering them to make informed decisions about their post-graduation plans. During a class meeting introducing the CTE programs, juniors had the chance to learn about the various pathways from Jennifer Reiff, WCCS CTE Director, and Lori Heuer, WCCS Talent Development Director. Applications for the CTE programs will be available soon, and CCHS school counselors will guide students through their applications during their junior class meetings. Whether a student is interested in pursuing a four-year degree, a skilled trade, or immediate employment, the CTE offerings at CCHS open the door to a world of opportunity. We can't wait to see the CCHS Class of 2024 embark on their CTE journeys and unlock their full potential. The future is bright for these talented eagles! #CTE #WCCSExperiences #WCCSRelationshipBuildes
