Columbia City High School freshman toured Whitko Career Academy to learn more about Career and Technical Education opportunities through the Whitley County CTE Cooperative. Smith Green Community Schools, Whitko Community Schools and Whitley County Consolidated Schools signed a memorandum of understanding in January to create the CTE cooperative to provide more opportunities for students. Columbia City High School students can take Biomedical Sciences, Culinary Arts, Early Childhood Education or Precision Machining at Whitko Career Academy. Similarly, Whitko and Smith Green students have the opportunity to join our CTE courses at CCHS. This cooperative model allows all students more opportunities streamlines efficiencies to meet state-required graduation requirements. In programs with high demand, like welding, the programs are offered at CCHS and Whitko. Smaller programs where we can share resources and benefit students helped create partnerships. While we have accepted students from outside the district in the past, this is a true cooperative model where students can reach their goals throughout the county. Thank you, Whitko Career Academy for allowing the freshman to tour your building! Columbia City High School hosted the first of its kind for the high school with the Indiana National Guard Career Day, providing students with an opportunity to explore military career pathways and service opportunities. The innovative event featured five interactive stations hosted by Indiana Army and Air National Guard representatives, allowing students to gain comprehensive insights into military careers, educational benefits, financial support, and service opportunities. A UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter on-site provided students with a tangible connection to military technology and operations. “This was a fun experience. I’ve never had something like this before. I hopefully want to go into the military to become a nurse and have tuition assistance. I want to become an OBGYN. I’ve always considered military and today helped,” said Jozelyn Alman, Columbia City High School Service Academy Junior. Read more: https://www.wccsonline.com/o/cchs/article/2163659
