Our Second grade has been working on Flat Stanley for a while now. They sent out their own Flat Stanleys to family and friends, listened to the book, answered comprehension questions, wrote letters, mapped where he traveled, practiced map skills, and presented all of his activities. They are also currently working on researching a state that they will present when they are finished!

On Wednesday, the Fourth graders from Mary Raber and Coesse got to experience the Indy 500 education program. The students visited 6 different hands-on stations. The stations included math of the 500, history and traditions, careers at the 500, driver gear, all about the flags, and the science of an Indy car. The students learned a lot and had a great time! We even had Brain Bills and Rex Love from the WCCS transportation department, Todd Cook and Jason Spencer from the Sheriff's Department, and several parents help run the stations and make this day a success!

Our second graders have enjoyed learning about earning, saving, borrowing, and spending during the Captain Cash program.
Thank you to our Captain Cash volunteers!

Recently, 4th graders walked out to the woods to hear a presentation from Mr. Rose on how syrup is made. He discussed the process he uses and the students watched as he tapped a sugar maple in the woods at Coesse. They learned the difference between sap and syrup and what the common syrup at the store is made of.

Third grade has been focusing on reading fluency by practicing a read-aloud for kindergarten. The students worked on their tone, speed, and expression to make the read-aloud engaging. The kindergartners are going to practice fluency, as well, and then come read their decodable texts to us!

Last week our second-grade students enjoyed pizza with the principal for reaching their NWEA growth goal. Way to go!

A special thank you to the CCHS football team for visiting today as guest readers!

Our 3 robotics teams finished their season this weekend at the Tech-Know tournament hosted by Little Turtle. The students started building their robots in October and have continually used the engineering design process to modify, strengthen, and test out their robots since. We are so proud of the hard work and dedication they have shown!

Coesse students met an author!
Last week, students virtually met author Peter Reynolds. Peter read his book ISH, led students through a draw-along, and took time to answer student's questions.
Thank you Coesse PTO for providing this opportunity!

The third-grade students at Coesse Elementary have been participating in a 5-week swim program at the YMCA. Throughout the weeks, the kids will focus on pool safety and essential life skills like honesty and respect. In this week’s session, the students learned about responsibility, emphasizing the importance of always swimming with a buddy and never alone. They also had the chance to practice crucial life-saving techniques, such as "reach, throw, don’t go," using a life ring.

Thank you to the Coesse community for your support of Coesse PTO's Read A Thon fundraiser. To date, we have raised more than $4,000! Keep up the good work!

Happy Valentine's from our Kindergarten!
