Last week, the third graders visited the Shrine Circus. They were escorted by the local police, which was definitely the highlight of their day! In preparation for our visit, the students have been doing persuasive writing about whether or not they think animals should be in the circus. They also completed a circus-themed math activity where they had to name fractions on a tightrope. Overall, it was a fun, exciting day that the students will never forget!

The 4th and 5th-grade enrichment group worked with Carlynn Cornhill, an interpretive naturalist, from Chain O’ Lakes State Park to identify many trees along their new trail. They enjoyed their time learning tips and tricks when identifying trees in the winter. The students are looking forward to getting some identification signs so all of the students at Coesse can enjoy them!

They were able to compete in their first competition this weekend in Huntington to show what they could do against 28 other teams. Overall, they all did amazing and improved their skills! Our 5th-grade team was even able to make it in the finals and ended up placing 5th. They are all looking forward to improving their designs so they are ready for their final competition in March. Last week the third graders went to the Arts United Center to enjoy the second half of the Nutcracker Ballet. The students got to watch the performances and meet the dancers. The dancers taught the students more about their costumes and workouts. The third graders have been learning all about the Nutcracker in music class. Our second and third graders performed A Dream About the Nutcracker.
