Today the 6th graders had Red, White, and Blue Day to celebrate today's honor flight and their guest speaker author Kayleen Reusser. She shared stories from her interviews with over 230 veterans.
Sixth graders will participate in a red, white, and blue day on April 26th when author, Kayleen Reusser, comes to speak to the sixth grade about the veterans she has interviewed for the many books she’s written. Sixth graders are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue on this day!
Here are the second week of ILEARN testing dress-up days.
This morning the finalists in the Charitable Champions project presented their grant requests to the HANDS Foundation board. As a part of the project students learn about philanthropy and local nonprofit groups. Students select a local nonprofit and write a grant on its behalf which focuses on an identified need. The nonprofits represented by the finalist presentations this year are Easterseals Passages, Camp Whitley, Forklift, and Giving Gardens. This program is a partnership between ISMS, HANDS, and the Whitley County Community Foundation. Grant awards will be announced in late May.

The next Family Skate Night is tomorrow, April 18, at Happy Valley Skate Center from 6-8 p.m. It was rescheduled due to spring break.
Don't Forget: Tonight is the Westward Expansion in Art Open House from 3:45-5:30 p.m. in the Projects Area. Explore art inspired by America's expansion west and manifest destiny created by 8th grade social studies students.
Today students from Mary Raber and Coesse schools made their trip to Indian Springs to get help to prepare them for the transition to middle school in the fall.
On Wednesday, students from Northern Heights Elementary School visited Indian Springs to help prepare them for sixth grade.
On Tuesday, fifth graders from Little Turtle Elementary School visited to get a taste of the middle school experience
This week the 5th graders from each elementary school had a chance to visit the middle school and experience the cafeteria where they will be served next year! The kids had their choice of either main line, or the salad bar line......and the salad bar seemed to be the popular choice for these upcoming 6th graders! Ms. Lemmon and her staff look forward to feeding these new faces next year!!!!
On Monday, April 17, the 8th-grade social studies department will be conducting an open house in the projects area at ISMS from 3:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The theme for the open house is "Western Expansion in Art" and the exhibition will showcase student artwork inspired by America's movement westward.
Next week ISMS will begin ILEARN testing and to help raise everyone's spirits each day will have a dress-up theme. Here are the dress-up days for the first week of testing.

Whitley County Consolidated Schools (WCCS) families have to opt in for transportation from WCCS for the 2023-2024 school year.
During registration, which opens today, parents/guardians will elect for students to ride the bus.
In the past, WCCS Transportation Department routed every student as a bus rider. WCCS knows 100 percent of students do not ride the bus for various reasons. For more accurate routes and clearer communication between guardians and bus drivers.
Guardians will opt in through Skyward during the registration process. As in the past, the guardian will select morning, afternoon or both transportation needs and indicate where the student is picked up and/or dropped off, which must be on a WCCS route.
